My Someday

"Today's My SOMEDAY". These words represent believing in yourself, finding strength, and having the faith to pursue and achieve the dreams you truly desire.

Nashville, also known as Music City is home to some of the world’s best songwriters. Since starting my music career I usually travel to Nashville a couple times a year to write songs for 10-14 days at a time.

In Nashville a lot of songs are written in an office setting on music row. One thing that surprised me is songwriting is more like a 9-5 job where the songwriter heads to the office around 9 a.m. and usually writes into the afternoon prior to returning home.

Over the years I've become good friends with a very talented songwriter named Adam Wheeler. We've written many songs that I've recorded including “I'm Okay”, “Cruising Song” & “You Won't Sleep Tonight”. One day while in Nashville Adam invited me to his place for a writing session. He thought stepping away from writing in an office on music row may spark some new inspirations and I’m sure glad he did.

We spent that morning writing a song called “Best In Me”. Once we finished that song we left the house to grab some lunch. When we arrived back from lunch I sat on the couch in the living room and began playing some chords on the guitar, Adam started humming a melody, and the lyrics started coming to us. It’s pretty rare for Adam and I to write two songs in one day but I feel very blessed that we were inspired to write these words that became “Someday” that afternoon.

Verse 1

Breaking like an ocean wave
Hoping just to reach the shore
Praying for the light of day
To show the way out of this storm

You been tossed about lost and found
Lifted up just to be let down

Chorus

But someday love is gonna take you in it’s arms
Hold you heal your wounded heart
Your faith is finally gonna lead you through the dark
You’ll find everything in time
I swear it’ll be okay
Hope you know you're on your way
To Someday

Verse 2

Love has been a painful word
For what you give and don’t get back
But when you get what you deserve
You’ll forever drown you past

And the sun will shine light up your life
It’s hard to believe it now

Chorus

But someday love is gonna take you in it’s arms
Hold you heal your wounded heart
Your faith is finally gonna lead you through the dark
You’ll find everything in time
I swear it’ll be okay
Hope you know you’re on your way
To Someday

When it came time to film the music video I'd been doing some fundraising events with a local Women's Outreach program. Domestic violence is not an easy thing to talk about, and we thought the video and song could inspire those people who were facing these difficult situations. After the “Someday” video was released on YouTube I started getting messages and emails from people around the world sharing their stories of their personal experiences with domestic violence. As a songwriter this song has shown me the true power of music. Knowing that “Someday” has and continues to help people through tough times is what makes me grateful for being able to share the gift of music.

“Someday” was written as a song of hope. May it inspire you to have faith and lead you to the happiness you deserve.

Believe in yourself,

Codie

P.S. We filmed the video in Saskatoon over a 2-day period with director Liam Richards of Electric Umbrella. My cousin Jordyn Kuzek was cast as the daughter in the video. It was minus 30 with a wind chill of minus 40 those 2 days and that’s in Celsius temperature so if I look cold in the outdoor shots now you’ll know why Lol.

I love hearing from you! Send me an email to artist@codieprevost.com with any feedback you may have!
